Is a clutch kit relevant for a 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Short answer: for most 2007 Land Cruiser wagons sold new in Australia and New Zealand (the newly launched 200 Series), a clutch kit is not used. Technical sources including Toyota Australia’s 200 Series launch specifications and brochure material for 2007 list a 6‑speed automatic transmission across the range, with no manual option offered. The 200 Series uses a torque converter automatic, so there’s no conventional clutch assembly to replace. Toyota parts catalogues for ANZ markets back this up by listing automatic transmission components (and no clutch disc/pressure plate) for 200 Series variants.

Why that matters: a clutch kit—typically the pressure plate, friction disc, and release bearing—is specific to manual gearboxes. In an auto like the 200 Series, take-off is handled by a torque converter and internal multi-plate clutch packs bathed in ATF, not a dry friction clutch. That’s why a “clutch kit” isn’t part of routine servicing on these vehicles.

There is a caveat. Some early-2007 vehicles on the road may be run-out 100/105 Series wagons that were still available with a 5‑speed manual (H150F/H151F) behind engines like the 1HZ diesel. Factory workshop manuals for the 100/105 Series detail a conventional clutch arrangement on those manuals. If the vehicle is one of those manual 100/105s, a clutch kit absolutely applies—but it’s a different model line to the 200 Series that debuted later in 2007.

  • What owners of a 2007 200 Series should focus on instead: scheduled automatic transmission servicing. While Toyota’s WS fluid units are often described as “sealed”, many local workshops recommend ATF inspection and fluid exchange under heavy towing, off‑road, or high‑kilometre use.
