Popular Questions Asked
Do I really need a torque wrench?
From the smallest nut or oil filters to wheels nuts, head studs and main bearing caps every one of these fasteners or bolts on your car has a torque requirement as specified by the directions of the vehicle manufacturer. The calibration on your torque wrench allows you to set this wrench torque setting and gradually tighten to secure your fastener.
Whether a digital torque wrench, or the older style deflecting beam torque wrench, our range of torque wrenches will have you turning out work like a professional. Know the safety and security of correctly torqued bolts and fittings when working on your vehicle and trust Repco.
What torque wrench should I buy?
Many of the smaller torque wrenches in our range provide low range torque for smaller nuts and bolts whereas when undertaking engine assembly, you would look to purchase a torque wrench that provides a greater range of high-end torque calibration for those high stress components. The features of the newer digital torque wrenches are that they allow you to set torque levels at either Newton meter (Nm), foot-pound (ft/lb), kilogram centimetre (kg/cm), or even inch-pound (in/lb). Other torque wrenches such as a deflecting beam unit measure in Newton meters and Foot pounds.
Using a torque wrench is easy for any operator and each type of torque wrench provides accurate measuring with clear indicators to ensure the right torque. Alternatively, on the older deflecting beam units they have a pin located on the handle end that once depressed clicks once the wrenches torque setting is reached. The newer digital torque wrenches have a sound to designate correct torque.
How do I know my torque wrench is calibrated correctly?
Whilst the quality of torque wrenches varies, all torque wrenches are supplied with a certificate of calibration to show that their accuracy is on a scale of which it will be set. Torque wrenches require careful handling and usage as if they are dropped or mistreated, they will provide inaccurate readings. Buying a reputable brand will provide both years of quality service but will also have the ability to be recalibrated if required.
