Popular Questions Asked
What does Degreaser do?
Degreaser is a cleaner designed to remove stubborn contaminants from a variety of under bonnet surfaces. Whether you are in a workshop or fixing your car at home, a degreaser is one of those products that you can never have enough of. Simple and easy to use simply spray or brush on, let it sit for a few minutes to break down the grease and grime, then wipe, wash or hose off. It strips grease and grime from painted surfaces, metals, plastics, rubbers and most are water soluable. It is messy to use so a bit of forward planning is required before diving into it.
Why do I need Degreaser?
Degreaser cleans auto parts like engines, transmissions and differentials before you work on them. Having a cleaned part makes it easier to inspect for cracks, wear and tear or any damage it may have suffered from being on the road. If it is covered in gunk it is hard to tell what condition it is in. Not just the outside, engine degreaser can clean the inside of components as well, making inspections a lot easier. Cleaning the workshop floor from oil and grease is also another use as besides making it clean, it makes it safer by removing any slippery substances from the surface.
What is the difference between a Normal and a Heavy Duty Degreaser?
Most ready to use degreasers are stronger than an all-purpose cleaners, which have a relatively neutral pH solution. Degreasers can be caustic, alkaline or solvent based and the stronger (heavy duty) it is the more easier it eats through grease and oil. Most degreasers are not designed to be harmful to the products you are using them on though it is good practice not to leave them on longer than recommended in the instructions. All spray degreasers are ready to use as are a lot of bulk degreasers.
Whether you are using a spray degreaser or a brush on degreaser always ensure adequate personal protective equipment is used to avoid health and safety risks.
