Centre Bearing on the 2002 Daihatsu YRV: Does It Need One?

When it comes to the 2002 Daihatsu YRV and centre bearings, it turns out that this little urban crossover does not use a centre bearing in its drivetrain. Why? Well, it mostly comes down to the vehicle's layout and design.

The 2002 YRV is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and it does not feature a long, multi-piece driveshaft that spans the length of the car. Centre bearings are typically installed on long driveshafts to support the shaft and reduce vibrations as it spins. This is more common in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive vehicles where the driveshaft has to run from the engine or transmission to the rear differential. Because the YRV has a relatively compact front-wheel-drive system, it relies on shorter, simpler half-shafts (CV axles) that don't need the additional support or vibration dampening a centre bearing provides.

In simpler terms, the 2002 Daihatsu YRV's drivetrain design doesn't really call for a centre bearing, so you won't find one fitted. This also means less maintenance fuss around this component, which some drivers will appreciate. If you're servicing the car or looking for replacement parts, you won't need to hunt down a centre bearing or worry about it causing any drivetrain troubles.
