2000 Nissan Primera Fuel Pump: what it does and how to look after it

Based on technical references, the 2000 Nissan Primera (P11 series facelift) absolutely uses a fuel pump. The Nissan Primera P11 Factory Service Manual (sections FL and EC, 1999–2002), the Haynes Nissan Primera 1990–2002 Service and Repair Manual, and the Nissan FAST parts catalogue all specify an in-tank electric fuel pump module for the petrol QG16DE/QG18DE/SR20DE engines, while the YD22DDTi diesel uses a high‑pressure injection pump plus associated supply components. So a fuel pump is relevant and fitted to this vehicle range.

On petrol models, the in-tank electric pump sits inside a module that also houses the strainer (pre-filter), pressure regulator/check valve (varies by market), and the fuel level sender. Its job is to push petrol from the tank to the fuel rail at the correct pressure for the injectors so the engine starts crisply, idles smoothly, and pulls cleanly through the rev range. On the diesel, the high-pressure pump feeds the common rail and is more specialised, but there’s still a pumping system at play.

There’s no set replacement interval for the Primera’s fuel pump
