Keep your vehicle and the environment happy with our range of replacement DPFs
Having a DPF system in your diesel cars helps trap diesel particles which prevents pumping out excess soot and reduces harmful exhaust emissions being entered out into the environment. A DPF system is a complex piece of machinery, like anything, they can become worn out over time, leading to a replacement needed. Here at Repco, we stock the well-known brand of quality Ryco diesel particulate filters.
Popular Questions Asked
What is a diesel particulate filter (DPF)?
Located in the exhaust system of a diesel vehicle, a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a rigid filter designed to filter and remove exhaust soot and particulate matter from exhaust gases. This regeneration process of burning the gathered soot from the diesel filter.
The main filter element comprises a ceramic or metallic element that exhaust gas passes through to catch the soot. Predicting when a DPF will fail is difficult as some may become blocked after 2-3 years of use, while others will last the vehicle's life. As part of your vehicle's emissions system, you may, over time, become faced with blocked diesel particulate filters or a DPF that has reached its capacity. There are several steps that can be undertaken to clean or unblock a DPF, but if these are unsuccessful, a replacement DPF will need to be installed.
What is passive regeneration?
This regeneration process occurs when you have driven for long periods on a regular basis. The exhaust will reach very high temperatures due to the engine's speed and heat, therefore, it will burn off the soot that is trapped.
What is active regeneration?
Active regeneration process occurs when the exhaust temperature is not high enough. This can occur when you don't drive your car very often or if you make lots of short trips. When this happens, your DPF can become full of soot, indicating you need an active regeneration process. This process allows raw fuel to inject into the diesel oxidation catalyst to produce enough temperature in the diesel particulate filter.
What are the signs of a clogged or faulty DPF?
The list below is common signs of a blocked DPF or faulty DPF, if you notice anything unusual happening to your DPF, contact your local mechanic to ensure your DPF is running right.
- DPF light appears on your dash, this light will differ depending on your vehicle.
- Excessive smoke
- Using excessive amounts of fuel compared to normal
- Your engine can run rough or reduce engine performance
- Trouble starting your vehicle
