2022 Subaru Impreza oil pump — what it does and how to look after it
Technical sources confirm the 2022 Subaru Impreza is fitted with a dedicated engine oil pump. The Subaru Service Manual (STIS) for the FB20 engine (MY2022) outlines a crankshaft-driven gerotor/trochoid oil pump integrated into the front timing chain cover under the “Lubrication” section. The Subaru Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) also lists an oil pump assembly for this model year, further confirming its use.
The oil pump’s job is to push a precise volume of oil under pressure through the engine. It feeds the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, camshafts, AVCS (variable valve timing) actuators, timing chain tensioners, and other galleries so everything stays lubricated and cool. Without a healthy pump and clean oil, metal-to-metal contact can happen frighteningly fast — that’s when bearings score, chains rattle, and the engine’s life gets shortened.
There’s no scheduled “replace by” interval for the oil pump on a 2022 Impreza
