Why no external filter? Modern Toyota returnless fuel systems keep the pump inside the tank where petrol cools and lubricates it, and a fine filter/strainer protects the system right at the source. With sealed tanks, EVAP control and generally clean fuel supply in AU/NZ, Toyota engineered the Aqua’s filter as a “lifetime” component within the module, reducing joints, weight and service points.
