2020 Subaru XV clutch-kit — is it actually a thing?

Short answer: a clutch-kit isn’t relevant to the 2020 Subaru XV sold in Australia and New Zealand. Technical sources including Subaru Australia MY20 XV specifications and the Subaru New Zealand XV brochure list the Lineartronic CVT as standard across all 2020 variants (2.0i, 2.0i-L, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i-S and Hybrid e-Boxer). No manual gearbox is offered for this model year in these markets. Subaru’s factory service information for the G5X-platform XV/Impreza also describes the TR580 Lineartronic CVT with a torque converter and chain-driven variator — there’s no conventional friction clutch assembly, so there’s nothing to replace as a “clutch-kit”.

That’s why a mechanic won’t recommend or fit a clutch-kit to a 2020 XV here. A clutch-kit only applies to manual transmissions (pressure plate, friction disc and release bearing). The XV’s CVT uses a fluid-coupled torque converter with an internal lock-up clutch and steel chain/variator pulleys to change ratios. Those internal components aren’t serviced as a traditional clutch-kit, and the system doesn’t use a clutch pedal.

If someone spots clutch-kits online claiming to suit “Subaru XV”, they’re usually for earlier first‑gen XVs that had manuals in some regions, or for Impreza manual models. For a 2020 XV in Aus/NZ, the right path is CVT care rather than clutch replacement.
