Based on Ford Workshop Manual (AU/NZ) Section 303-14: Electronic Engine Controls, the 2017 PX MkII Ranger does use throttle position sensing. The system employs dual-track sensors in the accelerator pedal (APP) and a position sensor on the intake throttle valve for the diesel variants (2.2 and 3.2 TDCi), or an electronic throttle body for petrol models in some markets. Bosch EDC17 engine management used on the TDCi engines also specifies an intake throttle with position feedback. So, throttle-position-sensors are absolutely relevant to this model.

Avoid blasting the engine bay with a pressure washer, moisture in the connectors under the bonnet can cause intermittent faults. Inspect the wiring looms around the intake throttle/EGR area for chafe. If replacing parts, note that the diesel intake throttle’s motor and sensor are usually supplied as a single assembly, and the accelerator pedal sensor is integrated into the pedal module. Don’t try to “adjust” a TPS—there’s nothing to set. After replacement, use a scan tool to clear codes and run throttle/pedal relearn (Ford IDS/FDRS or a capable aftermarket tool). The PCM will often self-learn after a battery-off cycle, but a guided procedure is quicker and more reliable. Choose quality parts that match the original calibration to keep the Ranger responsive and compliant with emissions expectations.
