2016 Ford Mondeo drive-belt-tensioner: what it does and when to replace it
Technical sources confirm the 2016 Ford Mondeo is fitted with an automatic drive-belt-tensioner on its main accessory (serpentine) belt. Ford’s Workshop Manual for Mondeo 2015– (Section 303-05A, Accessory Drive) specifies rotating the automatic tensioner to remove and refit the belt. Ford parts catalogues (ETIS/Microcat) list an “Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner” for the model, and major aftermarket catalogues from Gates (DriveAlign) and Dayco also supply dedicated tensioner assemblies for common Mondeo engines (1.5L EcoBoost, 2.0L EcoBoost, 2.0L Duratorq TDCi). Note: some variants use a separate stretch-fit A/C belt with no tensioner, but the main serpentine belt still uses a drive-belt-tensioner.
On the 2016 Ford Mondeo, the drive-belt-tensioner keeps the serpentine belt at the right tension so the alternator, A/C compressor and related ancillaries behave themselves. It automatically takes up belt stretch, damps vibrations and helps the belt grip properly in all Aussie and Kiwi conditions, from cold starts to hot runs up the motorway.
As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to inspect the drive-belt-tensioner at the same time as the belt. A healthy unit runs quiet and steady
