2015 Audi Q5 camshaft-sensor — what it does and when to replace it
The camshaft-sensor is absolutely relevant on the 2015 Audi Q5. The sensor feeds the engine control unit precise cam angle data for variable valve timing, sequential fuel injection, and smooth starts, so it’s very much part of the show on a 2015 Q5.
In simple terms, the camshaft-sensor tells the ECU which stroke each cylinder is on. Matched with the crank sensor, it lets the Q5 fire injectors and spark (on petrol models) at exactly the right moment. It also helps the ECU control Audi’s cam phasing hardware, trimming valve timing for power, economy, and clean emissions. If the signal goes missing or skew-whiff, expect harder starting, rough idle, lazy throttle response, and a dash light. Common fault codes include P0340–P0344 and cam/crank correlation codes.

Always tighten to factory spec and clear codes afterwards. On many Q5s the ECU will relearn cam/crank correlation after a short drive cycle, a scan tool can speed this up.
Use an OE-quality sensor, cheap knock-offs can introduce noisy signals that cause intermittent dramas. If the car’s clocking higher kilometres or has had oil leaks in the cam cover area, it’s worth being proactive—catching a failing camshaft-sensor early prevents stalling or limp-home behaviour that can ruin a weekend away.
