There isn’t a separate, adjustable TPS like older cable-throttle setups, so yes, a throttle-position sensor is used on this model, but it’s integrated into the throttle body.
In day-to-day driving, the TPS tells the engine ECU exactly how far the throttle plate is open. Paired with the accelerator pedal position sensor, it lets the ECU blend airflow, fuel and ignition for smooth take-offs, steady cruising and crisp kickdown. If the readings don’t line up, the ECU can drop the car into limp mode to keep things safe.
Because the TPS is built into the throttle body, maintenance is more about keeping the assembly clean and the connectors healthy than “adjusting the sensor.” A sensible service routine for a 2014 Wish includes:
- Inspecting the throttle body under the bonnet for carbon build-up every 40–60,000 km, clean the bore and plate with throttle-body-safe cleaner (no harsh scrubbing, don’t force the butterfly open).

After cleaning or replacement, perform a throttle/idle relearn — many scan tools offer this, or leave ignition on (engine off) for a short period, then idle the engine with accessories off before a gentle drive cycle. That helps the ECU settle its airflow targets.
Worth noting: the accelerator pedal has its own position sensor, don’t mix the two up when diagnosing. A quick scan and a few sanity checks usually pin the fault without guesswork.
Does the 2014 Toyota Wish have a separate, adjustable TPS?
