2014 Holden Captiva 7 Brake Calipers

Technical references from the GM Holden Captiva CG Series II Workshop Manual (covering 2014 models), the GM Global Electronic Parts Catalogue, and major aftermarket catalogues from Bendix, DBA, and ACDelco confirm the 2014 Holden Captiva 7 is equipped with front and rear disc brakes using floating brake calipers. So, brake calipers are absolutely relevant and fitted to this vehicle.

On a Captiva 7, the brake calipers do the heavy lifting: they turn hydraulic pressure into clamping force, squeezing the pads onto the rotors to haul the SUV up smartly. The design is typically a floating (sliding) caliper on guide pins, which keeps weight down and serviceability up while still delivering reliable stopping power. ABS and ESC rely on the calipers being healthy to modulate braking smoothly on Aussie and Kiwi roads.

As part of regular servicing, calipers deserve a close look. Check for sticky slide pins, torn dust boots, uneven pad wear, leaks around the piston seal, and heat spots. A light clean and fresh high-temp synthetic or silicone-based slide grease at service time keeps the pins moving freely and helps prevent tapered pad wear and brake squeal. Brake fluid should be DOT 4 and replaced about every two years to protect internal seals and keep the pedal feel crisp.

When rotors and pads are due, support the caliper properly (never let it hang off the hose), clean the bracket faces, and torque the guide pins and bracket bolts to factory spec. Retracting the rear pistons may require a wind-back tool on some variants
