2011 Toyota bB tail-lights: purpose, care and replacement
Tail-lights are absolutely fitted to the 2011 Toyota bB and are fully relevant to servicing. This is supported by technical references including the Toyota bB owner’s manual for the QNC2# series (which lists the rear combination lamp set: tail/stop, indicator and reverse) and by regulatory requirements such as Australian Design Rules 13/00 and 49/00, and New Zealand’s Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Lighting 2004, all of which require rear position (tail) lamps on road-going passenger vehicles.
On a 2011 Toyota bB, the tail-lights are part of the rear combination lamps. They glow red whenever the park/headlights are on, helping drivers behind see the vehicle’s position and width at night or in poor weather. They’re a key piece of safety kit, working alongside brake lights and indicators to communicate the bB’s moves. Whether the car uses bulbs or an LED module (varies by trim and market), the job is the same: be clearly visible without dazzling, and keep working reliably in rain, dust and road grime.
As part of routine servicing, tail-lights on a bB deserve a quick once-over. A technician will switch on the lights, check brightness and colour, and confirm both sides illuminate evenly. They’ll also look for cracked lenses, moisture inside the housing, aged gaskets and any wiring chafe near the tailgate. If the bB uses conventional bulbs, they’ll recommend replacing aged pairs together so the light output stays balanced. Where the model has LED tail-lights, the focus is on keeping the lens clean and ensuring the seal is watertight
