Maintaining and Replacing Strut Mounts on Your 2011 Mazda Axela
The 2011 Mazda Axela is equipped with strut mounts, which are an integral part of the vehicle's suspension system. Strut mounts play a critical role in connecting the vehicle's struts to the chassis, providing balance, enhancing handling, and reducing noise. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of strut mounts are vital to ensure a smooth and safe driving experience.
Strut mounts can wear out over time due to regular driving conditions, road debris, and exposure to other environmental factors. One of the first things you might notice when your strut mounts are beginning to fail are unusual noises coming from the suspension area, such as clunking or creaking sounds. These noises are often more noticeable when you're driving on rough roads or when making sharp turns. Aside from noises, you might also feel vibrations in the steering wheel or notice uneven tyre wear, indicating that it's time to inspect the strut mounts.
Though strut mounts are generally robust, replacing them can restore the comfort and performance of your Mazda Axela. The process of replacing strut mounts requires some mechanical know-how, therefore, it's often recommended to seek the assistance of a professional mechanic. However, if you decide to tackle the job yourself, make sure you have the appropriate tools including a jack, jack stands, a socket set, and a spring compressor.
- Before starting, ensure your Mazda Axela is parked on a level surface and the handbrake is engaged. Use the jack to lift the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheels to access the struts.
- Safely compress the coil spring using the spring compressor. This step is critical because the coil spring holds a lot of tension, and releasing it improperly can be dangerous.
- With the spring compressed, remove the nuts securing the strut to the strut tower in the engine bay.
- Detach the strut from the vehicle and remove the old strut mount from the strut assembly.
- Fit the new strut mount to the strut assembly, then carefully reattach the strut to the vehicle. Make sure all nuts and bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Finally, release the tension of the spring compressor slowly and ensure everything is aligned correctly. Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
After replacing the strut mounts, it's a good idea to get a wheel alignment to ensure that the steering and suspension components are properly aligned. This helps to prevent uneven tyre wear and maintains optimal handling. Regular checks as part of your vehicle's maintenance routine will ensure that the strut mounts, along with the rest of the suspension system, remain in good working condition. Maintaining your strut mounts not only enhances your driving experience but also extends the life of other components within the vehicle's suspension system.
