Replacement is straightforward for a pro and moderate for a DIYer with patience: disconnect the battery, gain access under the intake manifold, remove the old sensor, clean the pad, and torque the new unit correctly. For MR-series engines the factory torque is typically about 22 N·m, over-tightening can skew readings. Use a quality sensor (genuine or a reputable aftermarket equivalent) and route the loom away from high electrical noise. After refit, clear codes with a scan tool and complete a drive cycle so the ECU relearns knock control.
A few handy tips under the bonnet:
- Run good-quality fuel, if it pings on 91, consider 95 RON.
- Don’t ignore a rattle under load, sort the cause early.
- If you see P0325 plus rough idle, also check earths and intake leaks.
Where is the knock sensor on a 2010 Nissan Serena?
It’s mounted on the engine block, central and low under the intake manifold—roughly beneath the throttle body area on the MR20DE. Access is usually from above with the manifold and its brace out of the way, or from underneath with extensions if you’re nimble. A mirror and good lighting help heaps.
Can it be driven with a faulty knock sensor?
