2009 Honda Elysion batteries

Honda technical sources—the 2009 Elysion Owner’s Manual, the factory Service Manual for the RC platform, and Honda’s Electronic Parts Catalogue—confirm the 2009 Honda Elysion uses a 12‑volt lead‑acid starting battery. Whether it’s the 2.4‑litre i‑VTEC four or the 3.5‑litre V6 with VCM, a correctly sized 12V battery is essential equipment on this model.

That 12V battery does more than crank the engine. It stabilises voltage for the ECU, fuel pump, ignition coils and lights, buffers the alternator during peak loads (demister, blower, sliding doors), and preserves memory for audio presets, windows and idle settings. A strong battery helps the alternator work less, which is kinder to belts and bearings and avoids dimming at night or a reluctant start on a frosty Kiwi or Tassie morning.

  • Expect a service life of about 3–5 years in typical Australian and New Zealand conditions. After year three, ask for an annual conductance or load test.
  • Select the correct JIS‑spec case and “L” terminal orientation (positive on the left with posts closest). Match or exceed the original cold‑cranking amps and capacity recommended in the owner’s manual.
  • Keep terminals clean and tight, and ensure the hold‑down is secure so the case can’t vibrate. A light smear of dielectric grease helps resist corrosion.
  • Do mostly short trips? Pop a smart charger on it monthly to top up
