2007 Toyota Hilux Surf Transmission Fluid — what it does and when to service it
Transmission fluid is absolutely relevant to the 2007 Toyota Hilux Surf when it’s fitted with an automatic gearbox. Technical sources such as the Toyota Owner’s Manual for the 2007 Hilux Surf/4Runner and Toyota Repair Manuals for the A750F/A340F automatics specify dedicated automatic transmission fluid. Toyota calls for Toyota Genuine ATF WS (JWS 3324) in the 5‑speed A750F, and Toyota ATF Type T–IV (JWS 3309) in certain 4‑speed A340F applications. Where a manual gearbox is fitted, it uses gear oil (typically API GL‑4/GL‑5 75W‑90), not ATF.
In the Hilux Surf, quality ATF does three critical jobs: it lubricates moving parts, carries away heat, and provides the hydraulic pressure that applies the clutches and bands for each gear. The right fluid spec is essential for smooth shifts, torque converter lock‑up, and long service life of the valve body and internal clutches.
Toyota’s literature often describes the A750F as a “sealed” unit with no routine change under normal conditions
