2007 Ford Falcon fuel filter: what’s actually fitted and what owners should service

For the 2007 Ford Falcon (BF Mk II — including Barra 4.0 petrol, XR6 Turbo, and 5.4 V8 XR8), there isn’t a separate, serviceable in-line fuel filter. The filter is integrated into the in-tank fuel pump module and isn’t listed as a routine replacement item in the factory schedule. This setup is confirmed by Ford’s BA/BF Workshop Manual, Ford Australia’s Scheduled Service Guide (2006–2008) and popular repair manuals covering BA–BF Falcons, which all state that the fuel filter is part of the pump assembly and not serviced on its own.

Why did Ford go this way? The BF series uses a returnless fuel system. The pressure regulator and filtration are built into the pump module, keeping fuel cooler, reducing vapour formation, cutting down on evaporative emissions, and simplifying the plumbing under the car. The in-tank “lifetime” filter and strainer are designed to last the life of the pump when good-quality petrol is used.

  • No external canister filter to swap at service time
  • Filtration and pressure regulation are inside the tank with the pump
  • Ford’s official service schedule for 2007 BF Mk II has no fuel filter replacement line item

What does that mean for servicing? If the Falcon runs rough under load, hesitates, gets noisy from the tank area, or shows low rail pressure due to contaminated fuel, the fix is typically a new pump module (which includes the internal filter), not a separate filter change. Owners should stick to reputable servos, avoid running the tank right down, and act quickly after a bad fill.

Note for dedicated LPG (E-Gas) 2007 Falcons: they don’t use a petrol filter, but they do have serviceable LPG filters (liquid and sometimes vapour side). These are separate parts and should be replaced at the intervals in the E-Gas maintenance schedule, commonly around 30,000–60,000 kilometres depending on use and workshop guidance.

Fitting an aftermarket external filter on a BF is generally not recommended, as it can upset pressure/flow characteristics of the returnless system. If contamination is suspected, a proper diagnosis of fuel pressure and delivery, then replacing the in-tank module with quality parts, is the right move.

FAQs

Does a 2007 Ford Falcon have a replaceable fuel filter?
From factory, no. On BF Mk II petrol models the filter is built into the in-tank pump assembly and isn’t a scheduled service item. If it clogs due to dirty fuel, the usual remedy is replacing the whole pump module. Dedicated LPG (E-Gas) Falcons do have LPG filters, which are separate to the petrol system.

How often should the fuel filter be changed on a 2007 Falcon?
There’s no scheduled interval because there’s no separate, serviceable filter on BF Mk II petrol cars. Replace the in-tank pump module only if diagnostics point to restricted flow or contamination. For E-Gas models, follow the LPG filter intervals recommended by the service manual or your technician.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2007 Falcon?
It’s inside the fuel tank as part of the pump module. Access and replacement typically require tank removal. There isn’t an underbody canister filter like on some earlier Falcons.
