2006 Toyota Caldina Drive-Belt Pulley — What It Does and How to Look After It

Technical sources confirm the 2006 Toyota Caldina uses drive-belt pulleys. The Toyota Caldina T24 series Repair Manual (Engine Mechanical sections for 1ZZ-FE, 1AZ-FSE and 3S-GTE) details a V‑ribbed auxiliary belt running over the crankshaft pulley, alternator pulley, A/C compressor pulley, and tensioner/idler pulleys. The Toyota Electronic Parts Catalog for 2006 Caldina models (ZZT241W, AZT241W/246W, ST246W) lists these pulleys and the automatic tensioner assembly. So a drive-belt pulley is very much relevant on this model.

On a 2006 Caldina, the drive-belt pulley system transfers the engine’s rotation to key accessories. The crank pulley (often a harmonic damper) drives the V‑ribbed belt, which turns the alternator to keep the battery charged, spins the A/C compressor for cool air, and, depending on engine variant, also turns the water pump and/or power steering pump. The pulleys act as guides and speed changers, and the automatic tensioner keeps the belt at the right tension so it doesn’t slip or squeal.

As part of routine servicing, it’s wise to inspect the belt and pulleys every 10,000–15,000 km or at each oil change. The team would look for cracking, glazing, fraying, or rubber dust on the belt, and they’ll spin each pulley by hand (engine off, of course) to feel for roughness or play. Any wobble at the crank pulley or a chirp/squeal on start-up often points to a failing pulley bearing or a weakened tensioner. Many EPDM belts last well past 90,000 km, but age and heat cycles matter
