2005 Toyota Altezza manifold gasket: what it does and when to replace it
Based on Toyota technical literature for the Altezza SXE10/GXE10 series and the Lexus IS200/IS300 repair manuals covering the same platform, the 2005 Toyota Altezza does use manifold gaskets on both the intake and exhaust sides. The Toyota Repair Manual for SXE10/GXE10 (engine sections for 3S‑GE and 1G‑FE) and Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalogue list intake manifold gaskets, cylinder head–to–exhaust manifold gaskets, and the front pipe “donut” gasket, confirming the part’s relevance on this model.
On the Altezza, the manifold gasket’s job is simple but critical: it seals the join between the cylinder head and the intake manifold (keeping vacuum tight and airflow metered) and between the head and the exhaust manifold (keeping hot exhaust gases contained and the O2 sensors reading accurately). A healthy seal means smoother idle, proper fuel trims, quieter running and cleaner emissions under the bonnet and out the back.
These gaskets aren’t a routine service replacement like filters or plugs
