2002 Nissan Primera batteries – purpose, care and replacement
The 2002 Nissan Primera (P12) is absolutely fitted with a 12‑volt lead‑acid starter battery. Nissan’s owner and workshop documentation for the P12 series specifies a conventional 12 V battery in the engine bay to crank the engine and support vehicle electrics, so batteries are very much relevant to this model.
In day‑to‑day use, the battery’s job is to deliver a big burst of current to start the petrol or diesel engine, then smooth and stabilise voltage while the alternator runs the show. It also keeps the ECU, clock and radio presets alive under the bonnet when the ignition is off, and powers accessories with the engine off for a short time.
