1984 Suzuki Swift power-steering fluid — is it used?
Short answer: power-steering fluid isn’t used on a 1984 Suzuki Swift sold in Australia or New Zealand. The 1984 model (SA310/SA413 generation, also known as Cultus in some markets) runs a manual rack-and-pinion steering setup with no hydraulic assist, so there’s no pump, no hoses, and no reservoir to top up.
This isn’t guesswork. Technical references for the era specify manual steering only: the Suzuki factory service manual for SA310/SA413 (1983–1988) illustrates a non-assisted rack-and-pinion with no hydraulic components, the period SA-series parts catalogue for ANZ-market cars has no listings for a power-steering pump, lines, or reservoir, and period ANZ sales brochures (1984–1986) list “rack-and-pinion steering” without any mention of power assistance. General repair manuals covering the Swift-based Holden Barina MF (1985–1988) also show a manual steering layout and provide no fluid specification for power steering.
Why no power-steering fluid on this Swift? Because there’s no power steering. The car’s light kerb weight, narrow tyres and compact front-end packaging meant steering effort was acceptable without hydraulic assist. Deleting the pump and plumbing saved cost, weight and fuel, and simplified servicing for owners.

Where is the power-steering-fluid reservoir on a 1984 Suzuki Swift?
There isn’t one on a stock ANZ-spec 1984 Swift. The car uses a manual rack-and-pinion, so there’s no hydraulic system to service.
