How To Use a Tyre Repair Kit

A flat tyre can happen to anyone at any time, whether you’re commuting to work or embarking on a long road trip with the family. While roadside assist can get you out of a bind, having a tyre repair kit on hand provides a convenient and immediate solution to get you back on the road quickly.

These kits are designed for emergency puncture repairs and offer an alternative to spare tyres but note that they should not be used as a permanent replacement for a punctured tyre, just as a way to get to a servo and get the tyre replaced as soon as possible; they also are not designed to repair large cuts, blowouts, or sidewall damage.

Step By Step for Using a Tyre Repair Kit

1

Find the object in your tyre and remove it. If it has punctured the tyre wall, you'll need to replace the whole tyre, as a repair kit won't be able to plug that up.

2

Give the hole a good reaming with the reaming tool.

3

Grab one of the rubber strips from the kit and thread it through the applicator tool. Make sure that the rubber strip is evenly threaded through the applicator.

4

Smear a bit of the glue from the kit onto the rubber strip, close to where you threaded it through the applicator tool.

5

Push the rubber strip into the hole using the applicator tool and then yank the tool out once the entire strip is forced through, leaving the rubber strip behind to plug up the hole.

6

Cut both sides of the rubber strip so that they're level with the tyre.

7

Pump up your tyre to the correct PSI and make sure that the air holds in the tyre.

8

Fully replace tyre as soon as you are able.
