Timken Bearing - Enough Said…
Timken Bearings have been in the bearing business for 125 years so they know a thing or too about bearings. Every machine that moves will have bearings so they come in a vast range of sizes. From a small motor scooter to those massive tip trucks used in mining, bearings make the wheels go around. Then there are the bearing types like ball bearings, roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, plain bearings and spherical roller bearings just to name a few.
Since bearings are a moving part they will eventually wear out. The speed or rate they wear can vary as things like environment, lubricating grease, terrain, usage and maintenance can all play a part. Depending on the location in the vehicle, removal and replacement can vary just as much. Sometimes they are pressed on so can be difficult to change over without the right tools for the job.
Wheel Bearings Need Replacing?
So how do you know if your wheel bearings need replacing? According to Timken some of the warning signs are:
Visually - Abnormal tyre wear or extremely hot or smoking wheel hub.
Driver Feel - Wheel vibration, wobble or noise. Abnormal side pull when braking or decreased braking power. Increased fuel consumption or wheel lock-up/skidding.
With Wheel Jacked Up - Noisy or rough when rotated. Additional play or noise when moved from side to side. Note - If not sure check opposite side wheel to gauge if similar or not.
Anything more will require disassembly for a more comprehensive check.
When you need to replace your wheel bearings, the Timken brand is a name you can trust.
