Philips make a range of car headlight globes to help you light up the road when driving at night. Whether you are replacing a faulty one or upgrading to brighter units, Philips globes are a trusted brand as they have been doing this for a long time. Their globes are built to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) spec.
Halogen Headlight Globes
The Philips Halogen Headlight Globe is an incandescent lamp which consists of a tungsten filament that heats up and glows extremely brightly. It is sealed in a glass bulb filled with not air but a mixture of noble gases. These types of bulbs or globes are used in 80% of the worlds vehicles and come with a set of standardised electrical fittings (eg H4, H7, H1) on the ends of the globe.
Xenon Headlight Globes
Philips Xenon Headlight Globes shine with an intensity and colour closer to daylight. They have an extra long life and low power consumption though their cost is greater. The xenon globe is a system that has a light bulb, starter and ballast. The ballast helps the start the xenon gas ionising which causes the light. It then regulates the power causing the process to stay constant.
LED Headlight Globes
The next revolution in lighting. LED lighting is taking over as the lighting to have in automobiles. Phillips make a great range of LED headlight globes. When retrofitting LED headlights to an older vehicle that did not have them, there are 2 things to take into account. The heat sink on the back of the LED is large (Halogen globes do not have them) and the older vehicle may not have the space for it. Some road authorities are still restricting their use on older cars that were not fitted with them from new.
Next time one of your headlights blacks out, replace it with a bright new Philips globe.
