Don't just use any spark plug, insist on using a laser platinum NGK PMR8B spark plug
Although they come in at a higher price than standard, Laser Platinum NGK Spark Plugs offer a longer service life than a standard nickel-tipped spark plug. While you're investing more money in your spark plugs initially, you won't need to change them as often and can even save money in the long run on further spark plug replacements and servicing costs. While nickel alloy spark plugs offer a service life of anywhere from 20,000-40,000kms, NGK Laser Platinum spark plugs offer a service life of up to 100,000kms. Precious metal spark plugs like the NGK Laser Platinum also offer higher ignitibility which is achieved by using an exposed fine tip centre electrode which promotes superior flame growth when compared to a standard spark plug. Precious metals such as platinum also have a much higher melting point (1772 degrees Celsius) than traditional metals such as nickel (1453 degree Celsius). The higher melting point allows the centre electrode diameter to be reduced in size from 2.5mm to 0.6mm resulting in a flame kernel which doesn't have a large mass of centre electrode. The larger centre electrode of traditional spark plugs impedes the flame progress and hampers acceleration, fuel consumption and idle quality. This means that with a precious metal spark plug, your car will perform better across the board. For a more in-depth break down on NGK Spark Plugs, head over to our Understand Spark Plugs page.
