2023 Subaru Impreza clutch-kit — is it used?

Short answer: a clutch-kit isn’t relevant to the 2023 Subaru Impreza sold in Australia and New Zealand. According to Subaru Australia MY23 Impreza specification sheets and the equivalent Subaru New Zealand model specs, every 2023 Impreza variant in these markets is equipped with Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT automatic. Subaru’s technical material on the Lineartronic CVT explains it uses a torque converter and a steel push-belt between variable pulleys, not a conventional manual clutch assembly. Because there’s no manual gearbox offered locally for MY23, there’s no clutch-kit to replace or service.

What is a clutch-kit? In a manual transmission, it’s the friction disc, pressure plate and release bearing that connect and disconnect engine power to the gearbox. The 2023 Impreza’s CVT does that job differently. At take-off it relies on a torque converter (with a lock-up clutch inside the converter for efficiency at speed) and ratio changes are managed by the CVT’s pulleys and belt. None of that involves a serviceable “clutch-kit” like a flywheel, pressure plate and disc.

Looking for maintenance guidance? For owners chasing the kind of upkeep that would otherwise be “clutch maintenance,” the focus shifts to CVT care and overall driveline health:

  • Follow Subaru’s service schedule for CVT fluid checks and replacement where specified, especially if the car tows, sees frequent stop–start traffic, or drives in hot conditions.
  • Keep the cooling system in top nick
