2022 Volkswagen Amarok pedal pads
Based on Volkswagen’s own technical references, pedal pads are indeed used on the 2022 Amarok. Volkswagen ETKA (Amarok 2H, through MY2022) lists separate rubber covers for the brake pedal and, on manual utes, the clutch pedal, while the accelerator is an integral plastic “organ” pedal with no separate pad. The Amarok Owner’s Manual also cautions against worn, slippery pedal caps and advises replacement when necessary.
For the 2022 Amarok, pedal pads do a deceptively simple but vital job. Those rubber covers on the brake (and clutch, if it’s a manual) improve grip underfoot, especially when boots are wet, muddy, or dusty after a day on site or a run down a gravel road. Good pedal grip means better pedal feel and more confident braking in the real world. Over time, the pads harden, glaze, crack, or wear smooth, and that’s when braking can feel a bit skittish and shoes might slip—never ideal in traffic or on a steep descent.
As part of regular servicing, it makes sense to check pedal pad condition alongside fluid levels and tyres. If the surface is shiny, has bald patches, or is starting to split around the edges, it’s time to swap them. It’s a cheap, quick fix that restores grip and can even be picked up at a WoF or RWC if they’re looking worse for wear. On the auto Amarok, you’ll be replacing the single brake pedal pad, on manuals, it’s brake and clutch. The accelerator doesn’t have a removable pad—if it’s damaged, the whole pedal assembly is the service item.
- What to look for: smooth or glossy rubber, cracking, chunking, or pads that have gone hard.
- Replacement tips: use genuine or quality aftermarket pads, warm them slightly to help them slip on, avoid lubricants on the tread face.
- Cleaning: keep pads free of oil, polish, silicone, or greasy residues. A mild soap solution and a rinse is best.
- Intervals: there’s no set kilometre count—inspect at every service or after heavy off-road use.
Fitting is usually a simple peel-off/press-on job. Make sure the pad seats fully around the pedal plate lip so it can’t walk off. After fitting, test pedal feel in a safe area to confirm solid, slip-free contact.
Does the 2022 Amarok accelerator have a replaceable pedal pad?
No. The accelerator is an organ-style plastic pedal without a separate rubber pad. If it’s damaged or excessively worn, the complete accelerator pedal assembly is replaced.
How often should brake and clutch pedal pads be replaced?
There’s no fixed interval. Replace when the rubber is smooth, hard, cracked, or contaminated and won’t clean up. Many owners find they last years, but heavy work boots, mud, and frequent driving can speed up wear.
Are auto and manual Amarok pedal pads different?
Yes. Automatics have a single, wider brake pedal pad. Manuals have a brake pad and a separate clutch pedal pad, each sized to their respective metal pedal plates.
