2022 Toyota Camry coolant: what it is, why it matters, and when to change it

Coolant is absolutely relevant and used on the 2022 Toyota Camry. Technical sources including the 2022 Camry Owner’s Manual, Toyota Australia’s Genuine Fluids guidance, and Toyota dealer service schedules specify Toyota Genuine Super Long Life Coolant (pink) for both petrol and hybrid variants. That means every 2022 Camry relies on coolant to manage engine temperature and protect internal components, and hybrids also use coolant for the inverter/electronics loop.

This Camry’s coolant does far more than stop overheating. It circulates through the engine and radiator to carry heat away, resists boiling and freezing across Aussie and Kiwi climates, and contains corrosion inhibitors to protect alloy components, the water pump, and gaskets. Toyota’s Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) is premixed and phosphate‑based with organic acid technology, so it lasts a long time and plays nicely with factory seals and metals.

For everyday care, the level should be checked in the translucent expansion tank under the bonnet when the engine is cold. If it’s low, only top up with Toyota SLLC. In a pinch, demineralised water can be used to get home, but the system should be corrected with the proper coolant soon after. Avoid mixing different coolant types or colours—this can reduce protection and clog fine passages.

Service intervals noted by Toyota for SLLC are typically 160,000 km or 10 years the first time, then every 80,000 km or 5 years thereafter. Many local logbook schedules call for a coolant inspection at each regular service (often every 12 months or 15,000 km). Hybrid models have both engine and inverter coolant circuits
