2022 Nissan X-TRAIL wheel hubs
Wheel hubs are absolutely relevant to the 2022 Nissan X-TRAIL (T32). Technical sources including the Nissan X-TRAIL (T32) Service Manual—Front Axle (FAX) and Rear Axle (RAX) sections—and the Nissan Electronic Parts Catalogue (FAST) specify sealed hub-and-bearing assemblies front and rear, with integrated wheel speed encoder provisions for ABS. Major aftermarket catalogues for the T32 (2014–2022) also list complete hub units for both axles. That means the 2022 model is fitted with wheel hubs and uses sealed hub/bearing units rather than serviceable taper bearings.
On a 2022 X-TRAIL, the wheel hub assembly does the heavy lifting. It supports the vehicle’s weight via a sealed bearing, provides the mounting face and studs for the wheel, and keeps everything turning smoothly while handling braking and cornering loads. It also carries the encoder ring that the ABS and stability systems rely on for accurate wheel speed data. Being a sealed unit, it’s designed for long life with no regular greasing.
For servicing, the focus is inspection and early detection. Typical signs a hub is on the way out include:
- A humming or droning that rises with road speed, often changing when gently swerving.
- ABS or traction light on, sometimes with intermittent wheel speed sensor faults.
- Vibration through the steering or a rumble felt in the cabin.
- Play when rocking the wheel at 12 and 6 o’clock, or noticeable roughness when the wheel is spun by hand.
When replacement is due, the X-TRAIL uses a bolt-on hub unit. Best practice is to fit quality OEM-equivalent assemblies, renew any single-use fasteners (like axle nuts where specified), and torque everything to spec. Keep the hub face and brake rotor mating surfaces spotless to avoid runout, route and seat the ABS sensor correctly, and finish with a proper road test. There’s no need to replace hubs in pairs unless both show symptoms
