2022 Ford Fiesta driveshafts

Based on technical sources including the Ford Workshop Manual (Ford TIS, Section 205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts), the 2022 Ford Fiesta product specs, and Haynes/Autodata service data, the 2022 Fiesta is front‑wheel drive and is fitted with a pair of front driveshafts (CV halfshafts). There’s no rear prop shaft—so while it doesn’t have a traditional longitudinal “prop” like a rear‑drive ute, it absolutely does use driveshafts to get power from the transaxle to the front wheels.

On a 2022 Ford Fiesta, the driveshafts are the muscle that actually turn the front wheels. Each shaft has constant velocity (CV) joints that allow smooth power delivery while the suspension moves and the wheels steer. Many Fiestas use an intermediate shaft and support bearing on the right‑hand side to help keep shaft lengths equal and reduce torque steer—handy for everyday commuting and the odd enthusiastic squirt.

As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to give the driveshafts a once‑over at each 12‑month/15,000 km service interval. The big watch‑outs are the rubber CV boots and any signs of wear in the joints. A split boot quickly flings out grease and lets in grit, which can chew out a CV joint in no time. Catching a dodgy boot early usually means a simple boot replacement and fresh grease rather than a whole new shaft.

  • Common symptoms: clicking or knocking on full lock, vibration under acceleration, grease spatter inside the wheel or along the chassis, shudder on take‑off, or a rhythmic clunk.
  • Workshop tips: replace split boots promptly
