2021 Toyota Aqua Temperature Sensors
Based on Toyota technical publications — including the Toyota Repair Manual, New Car Features (NCF) and the Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD) for the 2021 Toyota Aqua hybrid — temperature sensors are very much part of the vehicle’s design. They’re used throughout the petrol engine, hybrid system and climate control to keep everything running safely, efficiently and smoothly.
In the Aqua, temperature sensors tell the engine and hybrid control computers what’s happening under the bonnet and in the battery pack. That info fine-tunes fuel delivery, ignition timing and cooling fan speed, manages inverter and motor protection, and looks after the hybrid battery’s charging and thermal management. Put simply, if a temperature sensor is giving crook data, the car may use more fuel, feel down on power, or throw warning lights.
- Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (often within the MAF)
- Hybrid battery temperature sensors (multiple thermistors)
- Inverter/motor temperature sensors
- Ambient/cabin temperature sensors for HVAC
There’s no set replacement interval for temperature sensors on the 2021 Aqua
