2021 Honda CR‑V oil cap — purpose, care and replacement
The 2021 Honda CR‑V absolutely uses an engine oil cap. Honda’s 2021 CR‑V Owner’s Manual shows the “Engine Oil” filler cap in the engine compartment diagram, and Honda’s genuine parts catalogue lists an oil filler cap for both the 1.5‑litre turbo petrol and the e:HEV hybrid engines. So it’s a fitted and relevant service item, not something that’s skipped on this model.
On a 2021 CR‑V, the oil cap seals the top of the engine’s oil filler neck to keep dust and moisture out and to stop oil mist escaping. It’s also the safe access point for topping up oil. The cap’s rubber seal (O‑ring) handles heat cycles and vibration under the bonnet, so it needs to be in good nick to maintain a proper seal. Most AU/NZ petrol models have a cap marked 0W‑20 to guide oil selection.
As part of regular servicing, a technician will remove the cap to add fresh oil, then refit it hand‑tight. It should be snug, not forced
