2021 Honda Civic clutch kit — what fits, what doesn’t

Based on technical sources, a conventional clutch kit is only relevant to the 2021 Honda Civic Type R (FK8) and not used on the mainstream 2021 Civic range sold in Australia and New Zealand. Honda Australia’s MY21 Civic specifications list a continuously variable transmission (CVT) across the standard hatch and sedan line-up, while the Type R is a 6‑speed manual. The same pattern is shown in Honda New Zealand’s model specs for that year. The 2021 Civic Type R Owner’s Manual also details a single dry-plate clutch operated by a hydraulic system, confirming a serviceable clutch assembly on that variant.

For the CVT-equipped 2021 Civic models, a clutch kit isn’t used because the CVT employs a torque converter and variator pulleys with a steel belt chain rather than a traditional friction clutch disc and pressure plate. There’s no release bearing or manual flywheel to service, so a “clutch kit” simply doesn’t apply to those cars.

For the 2021 Civic Type R, a clutch kit is central to getting power to the front wheels cleanly and reliably. The kit typically bundles the friction disc, pressure plate, release bearing and alignment tool
