2020 Toyota Camry brake wheel cylinders — are they used?

For the 2020 Toyota Camry, brake wheel cylinders aren’t a thing. This model runs four-wheel disc brakes, so there are no rear drum brakes and therefore no brake wheel cylinders fitted. Technical references that confirm this include the Toyota Repair Manual (Brake section, via Toyota TIS), the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue (showing rear brake caliper assemblies rather than drum components), and the 2020 Camry specification sheets for Australia and New Zealand, which list ventilated front discs and solid rear discs across the range. In short, if someone’s trying to sell wheel cylinders for a 2020 Camry, they’re not for this car.

Wheel cylinders are hydraulic actuators used exclusively inside drum brake assemblies. When the brake pedal’s pressed, fluid pressure pushes the pistons outward to force the brake shoes against the drum. Because the 2020 Camry uses rear disc brakes, it relies on brake calipers (not wheel cylinders) to clamp pads onto a rotor.

Toyota went with disc brakes all round on the 2020 Camry for consistent stopping performance, better heat management on long descents, easier servicing, and seamless integration with ABS, stability control and, on many variants, an electronic parking brake. That package simply doesn’t require wheel cylinders.

If the goal is keeping the Camry’s brakes in top nick, these are the items that matter instead of wheel cylinders:
