2020 Subaru Impreza Pedal Pads

Pedal pads are absolutely relevant on the 2020 Subaru Impreza. Subaru’s Global Platform Impreza (GK/GT) uses a removable rubber brake pedal pad on all variants, and a clutch pedal pad on manual models. This is supported by Subaru’s Global Service Manual (Brake/Chassis – Brake Pedal section) and the Subaru FAST parts catalogue for MY2017–MY2022 Impreza, which both identify the pedal “rubber” as a replaceable service item. The accelerator on these cars is a moulded pedal assembly, so there’s no separate rubber pad on the throttle, and the parking brake is electronic, so there’s no old-school foot-operated parking pedal or pad to worry about.

On a 2020 Impreza, the pedal pads do a simple but important job: they provide grip and a consistent feel underfoot, even when shoes are wet. Over time they harden, glaze, crack or wear smooth, which can increase stopping distance if a foot slips. For manuals, a fresh clutch pad improves modulation in traffic and on hills.

As part of routine servicing, it’s smart to inspect the pads every 12 months or 15,000 km (whichever comes first), or any time the interior is being cleaned. Look for these tell-tales: shiny/slick surfaces, rubber cracked at the corners, edges curling away from the metal pedal plate, or reduced tread pattern. If any of that shows up, replacement is cheap, quick and well worth it.

Replacement is straightforward on the Impreza:

  • Ensure the car is safely parked, ignition off, and mats anchored correctly.
  • Warm the new pad slightly (sunlight or warm water) so it’s more pliable.
  • Start at the top lip of the pedal plate and work the pad on, checking the rubber fully seats around the perimeter with no twists.
  • Press the pedal a few times with a clean shoe to confirm secure fit and good grip.

Handy tips for longer pad life: keep factory floor mats clipped in so they don’t ride up under the pedal
