2019 Nissan X‑Trail oil pump — what it does and when to service or replace it

Technical sources confirm the 2019 Nissan X‑Trail (T32) absolutely uses an engine oil pump. The factory Electronic Service Manual for the T32 (sections LU: Lubrication and EM: Engine Mechanical) details a crankshaft‑driven internal trochoid/gear pump for the petrol MR20DD 2.0L and QR25DE 2.5L engines, and a gear‑type pump for the 2.0 dCi (M9R) diesel. Nissan’s owner’s manual and service literature specify engine oil types and pressures that rely on this pump, and Renault‑Nissan M9R engine documentation does likewise for the diesel.

In this X‑Trail, the oil pump’s job is to pull oil from the sump, build pressure, and send it through the galleries to crank and rod bearings, camshafts, chain tensioners, and (on the petrols) the CVTC cam phasers. It keeps friction low, carries away heat, and traps contaminants in the filter. A relief valve in the pump housing manages pressure at higher revs. Without a healthy pump and clean oil, wear accelerates fast.
