2019 Nissan Serena water pump: what it does and when to service it

Based on Nissan’s C27 Serena service manual (Cooling System section) and the Nissan Electronic Parts Catalogue (FAST), the 2019 Nissan Serena is fitted with a water pump. Both the 2.0‑litre MR20DD petrol models and the e‑POWER variants (with the HR12DE engine acting as a generator) use an engine coolant pump to circulate coolant. On e‑POWER models there are also additional electric pumps that manage cooling for the electric drive components.

The water pump’s job is straightforward but vital: it keeps coolant moving through the block, head, heater core and radiator so the engine stays in its happy temperature zone. That steady flow helps avoid hot spots, detonation, warped heads and all the grief that comes with overheating. In normal driving, it’s working away quietly, pushing coolant from the engine to the radiator to dump heat, then back again. For petrol MR20DD models it’s a mechanical pump driven off the accessory belt
