2019 Nissan Pathfinder wheel hubs — what they do and how to look after them

Wheel hubs are absolutely fitted to the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder (R52). The Nissan Factory Service Manual for the R52 platform (sections FAX – Front Axle and RAX – Rear Axle) details the front and rear wheel hub and bearing assemblies, and the Nissan electronic parts catalog lists complete hub units for this model (part numbers vary by VIN and drivetrain). These technical sources confirm the Pathfinder uses bolt-on, sealed hub-and-bearing assemblies with integrated wheel studs and ABS encoder functionality.

On a 2019 Pathfinder, each wheel hub supports the vehicle’s weight via a sealed bearing, provides the mounting face for the brake rotor and wheel, and keeps everything running true. On AWD variants, the hub is splined to the CV axle and retained by a large axle nut. The ABS system reads wheel speed from an encoder built into the hub/bearing, so a failing hub can also trigger ABS or stability control warnings. In short, the hub is the bit that lets the wheel spin smoothly and safely while keeping brake and suspension geometry happy.

They’re sealed-for-life units, so there’s no greasing or adjustment. During routine servicing, a tech should check for play at 12 and 6 o’clock, listen for a dull roar or growl that gets louder above 40–80 km/h, spin the wheel for roughness, and look for ABS warnings or uneven tyre wear. Avoid blasting the hub area with high-pressure washers and don’t hang a brake calliper off the hose during brake work.

  • Replace the hub if there’s measurable play, roughness, rumbling, or ABS faults traced to the encoder/sensor ring.
  • Front hubs are bolted to the knuckle
