2018 Toyota Crown headlight-bulbs — are they used, and what to know
For most 2018 Toyota Crown models, traditional headlight-bulbs aren’t relevant. The 2018 Crown that launched mid‑year (S220 series: AZSH2x/GWS224) uses Bi‑Beam LED headlamps with an integrated LED light source and driver, so there’s no conventional halogen or HID “bulb” to swap. This setup is confirmed by Toyota’s Owner’s Manual and Repair Manual for the 2018 Crown S220, as well as the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue, which lists the headlamp as a complete LED assembly rather than showing separate low/high-beam bulb part numbers.
Why no headlight-bulbs? The LED module is built into the projector with heat‑sinking and a dedicated control unit. That design improves light output, beam accuracy, and energy efficiency, and it enables features like automatic levelling and adaptive high beam on certain grades. As a trade‑off, the light source isn’t a user‑serviceable bulb — if the LED unit fails, the remedy is repair of the LED module or replacement of the headlamp assembly.
There is one wrinkle: some late S210-series Crowns registered early in 2018 (pre‑facelift carryover stock) could still use a replaceable halogen high‑beam bulb alongside an LED low‑beam, depending on grade. If the vehicle is an S220 (launched June 2018), it’s LED-only for the main beams. Owners can confirm what they’ve got by checking the build plate/model code and the markings on the lamp lens.
- Look for model code S220 (e.g., AZSH21/GWS224) — these are LED Bi‑Beam.
- Lens markings often show LED identifiers
