2018 Holden Colorado Pedal Pads — What They Do and How to Look After Them
Based on Holden’s official RG-series parts catalogue and workshop manual references for MY17–MY20 Colorado, pedal pads are indeed fitted to the 2018 Holden Colorado. The brake pedal uses a replaceable rubber pad on both automatic and manual models, and manual variants also use a clutch pedal pad. The accelerator pedal typically has a moulded tread surface that’s integral to the pedal assembly rather than a separate, replaceable pad.
On a ute that works as hard as a Colorado, pedal pads are small parts that make a big difference. Their grippy rubber surface helps boots stay planted on the brake (and clutch on manuals), especially when footwear’s wet or muddy. As they wear down, harden, crack, or peel away at the edges, grip drops off — that’s when braking control can feel a bit sketchy.
During regular servicing (about every 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first), it’s smart to have the workshop check pedal pads alongside the usual safety items. Replacement is quick and inexpensive. A quality pad presses onto the pedal plate and should seat firmly around the lip. If the vehicle is used on farms, construction sites, or frequently in wet conditions, more frequent checks are a good idea.
Signs a 2018 Colorado could use new pedal pads:
- Shiny, smooth, or hardened rubber that’s lost its texture
- Cracks, splits, or chunks missing
- Edges lifting or the pad shifting on the pedal
- Noticeably reduced grip with wet or muddy boots
Replacement tips the service team will follow (and owners can keep in mind):
- Match the pad to the RG-series Colorado and transmission type (auto brake pad differs from manual brake/clutch pads)
- Clean the metal pedal plate before fitting to ensure the new pad seats fully
- Press evenly around the perimeter so the pad’s lip locks over the pedal plate
- After fitting, test feel with clean footwear to confirm grip
Genuine and reputable aftermarket pads both do the job
