2018 Ford Mondeo Pedal Pads

Pedal pads are fitted to the 2018 Ford Mondeo and are absolutely relevant to routine servicing. Ford’s Service Information/Workshop Manual for the CD391 Mondeo platform specifies anti-slip pedal surfaces, and Ford’s parts catalog (base number 2457 “Pedal Pad”) lists a replaceable brake pedal pad, with an additional clutch pedal pad on manual models. This aligns with ECE/ADR safety requirements for non-slip pedal faces noted in industry standards and inspection guides (e.g., NZ WOF and state roadworthy criteria).

On the 2018 Mondeo, the brake pedal (all transmissions) uses a removable rubber pad to provide grip in the wet and reduce foot fatigue. Manual variants also have a matching clutch pedal pad. The accelerator is a moulded assembly with a textured plastic face and doesn’t use a separate pad. These pads are a simple but crucial safety feature—when they harden, crack, or go smooth, stopping distances and control can suffer, especially in wet boots or jandals.

As part of regular servicing, it’s smart to inspect the pads every 15,000–20,000 km or annually. Look for glazing, cracking, edge curling, or a noticeably slippery feel. If the raised ribs are worn flat, replacement is due. Cleaning can restore grip if they’re merely dirty, but avoid silicone dressings—these make pedals slippery. A mild detergent, soft brush, rinse, and dry is the way to go.

Replacement is straightforward and quick. The old pad pries off from the pedal plate
