2018 Audi Q5 oil pump: what it does and how to look after it

Technical sources including Audi Self-Study Programmes for the EA888 Gen.3, EA288 and EA839 engines, the Audi Q5 (FY) Repair Manual – Lubrication System (ElsaPro), and the Audi parts catalogue (ETKA, lubrication group) confirm the 2018 Audi Q5 is fitted with an engine oil pump. It’s a variable, demand-controlled pump on these engines, designed to deliver the right pressure with minimal drag.

The oil pump’s job is straightforward but critical: it pushes pressurised oil through galleries to crankshaft and camshaft bearings, timing components, balance shafts, and the turbocharger, keeping friction down and heat in check. On the Q5’s modern engines, the pump varies its output with engine load and temperature, helping the engine warm up smartly and saving a bit of fuel whilst maintaining stable oil pressure when it counts.

There’s no scheduled replacement for the oil pump on this model
