2017 Lexus IS manifold gasket: what it does and when to replace it
Per Lexus Repair Manual (Toyota TIS) procedures for the 2017 IS (chassis codes ASE30/AVE30 for 2.0L turbo 8AR-FTS, and GSE31/GSE37 for 3.5L V6 2GR series), both intake manifold gaskets and exhaust manifold gaskets are specified and must be renewed when disturbed. Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) for the same models also lists dedicated intake and exhaust manifold gaskets for these engines. So yes, a manifold gasket is fitted to the 2017 Lexus IS and it’s very much relevant.
On this Lexus, the manifold gasket seals key junctions so the engine breathes and expels gases properly. Intake manifold gaskets keep unmetered air out, preserving smooth idle and correct fuel trims. Exhaust manifold gaskets (on the V6, and at the cylinder head-to-turbo/manifold junction on the 8AR-FTS) keep hot exhaust gases contained, maintaining performance and protecting nearby components from heat and fumes.
It’s not a routine replacement item by kilometres or time
