2016 Toyota Wish oil pump – purpose, upkeep, and when to replace

The 2016 Toyota Wish does use an engine oil pump. Technical sources including the Toyota 2ZR/3ZR engine repair manual (Lubrication section) and the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalog list a crankshaft-driven trochoid oil pump integrated into the timing chain cover on the 2ZR‑FAE and 3ZR‑FAE engines fitted to the second‑generation Wish (ZGE2# series). That makes the oil pump a very relevant part for reliability and engine longevity on this model.

On this Wish, the oil pump’s job is simple but critical: it pressurises and circulates engine oil to bearings, camshafts and the Valvematic/VVT gear, keeping everything lubricated and cool. Being driven off the crank means oil pressure rises with engine speed, and the internal relief valve prevents overpressure.
