2016 Toyota Camry clutch-kit — not applicable for Aussie and Kiwi models

Shopping around for a clutch-kit for a 2016 Toyota Camry? For Australian and New Zealand–spec models, a traditional clutch-kit isn’t relevant. That year’s Camry range was supplied with either a 6‑speed torque‑converter automatic (2.5‑litre petrol) or an eCVT transaxle in the Hybrid. Neither uses the kind of friction clutch and pressure plate you’d replace with a typical “clutch-kit”.

Why’s that the case? On the 2.5‑litre petrol Camry, Toyota pairs the engine with an Aisin U760E 6‑speed automatic. It uses a fluid torque converter and internal multi‑plate clutches inside the transmission, not a pedal‑operated clutch with a flywheel. Those internal clutches are part of the transmission assembly and aren’t serviced as a “clutch-kit”.

The Camry Hybrid goes a different route: its eCVT (Toyota Hybrid System transaxle) uses a planetary gearset and motor‑generators to blend power, again with no conventional friction clutch. There’s no clutch pedal, no pressure plate, and no release bearing to replace. So, if someone’s offering a “clutch-kit” for a 2016 Camry in Aus/NZ trim, it’s simply not the right part for the vehicle.

What should owners focus on instead? Stick to good servicing habits for the transmission fitted to the car:

  • Transmission fluid: Use the correct Toyota ATF (WS) for the 6‑speed auto, or hybrid transaxle fluid as specified. Follow the Toyota service schedule in the Warranty &
