2016 Holden Captiva 7 pedal pads — what they do and when to replace them

Based on the Holden/GM Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) and the Holden Captiva CG Series II service manual (Brake Controls — Brake Pedal), the 2016 Holden Captiva 7 is fitted with pedal pads. The rubber brake pedal pad is a separate, replaceable item, and manual-transmission models also have a separate clutch pedal pad. The accelerator uses an electronic pedal assembly with an integral treaded face rather than a removable pad, so only the brake (and clutch, where fitted) are service items.

On this model, pedal pads provide grippy, compliant contact surfaces for safe, consistent foot control across wet boots, sandy thongs, or the odd work shoe. They also help meet dimensional and slip-resistance requirements seen in roadworthy/WOF standards. Over time, the rubber can harden, glaze, or wear smooth, increasing the chance of a foot slipping under braking or clutch operation.

Typical reasons to replace include:

  • Surface worn smooth, shiny, or hardened
  • Cracks, splits, or missing chunks of rubber
  • Pad loose on the pedal plate, or edges no longer hugging the metal
  • Contamination with oils or silicone making the pad slippery

During routine servicing, a visual and tactile check is straightforward and recommended. Many workshops include this at every service interval because it’s a quick safety win. High‑kilometre, city‑stop, or tradie use tends to wear pads faster
