2016 Ford Mondeo pedal pads — what they do and when to replace them
Pedal pads are definitely used on the 2016 Ford Mondeo (MD series). Ford’s Workshop Manual for the MD Mondeo (Section 206) lists replaceable rubber pads for the brake pedal, and for the clutch on manual models, while the accelerator is an integrated electronic pedal without a separate rubber cover. The Ford Electronic Parts Catalogue (Microcat/ETIS) also shows “Pad – Brake Pedal” and “Pad – Clutch Pedal” as serviceable items for this model. That means they’re relevant to routine maintenance and safety checks on any 2016 Mondeo.
On this Mondeo, pedal pads serve a simple but critical role: they give the driver secure, non-slip contact with the brake and clutch. Over time the rubber surface hardens and smooths out, especially with daily commuting, wet boots, or sandy grit. Worn pads can feel slippery in the wet and slightly spongy underfoot, which is the cue to sort them at the next service.
Good practice is to have the pads inspected at every service or whenever the pedals feel slick, particularly through winter or after a lot of stop–start driving. Techs look for glazing, cracking, curled edges, or a shiny surface. If any of those show up, replacement is inexpensive and quick.
